A Night to Remember at the 2025 Business Excellence Awards
The 2025 Business Excellence Awards was one of those special nights that reminded us why we do what we do. It wasn’t just about recognition — it was about coming together as a community to celebrate the people behind the work, the effort that often goes unseen, and the local businesses that keep things moving, day in and day out.
We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce and the event sponsors for putting together such a thoughtful and well-organised event. We know these nights don’t come together easily, and it truly was a credit to everyone involved.

We were genuinely surprised and honored to receive the award for Best Business with 21+ Employees. To be recognised alongside the likes of Boom, Kestrel, and Europcar — all businesses doing incredible work in our region — meant a lot to us.
Our team at Finmec doesn’t do this work for the spotlight. They turn up early, stay late, and do what’s needed — not because it’s glamorous, but because they care. They care about each other, our clients, and the community we’re part of. This award is for them — every apprentice, tradesperson, admin, and support crew member who helps Finmec be what it is.
As Daniel shared on the night:
“We’re not slick. We don’t speak in corporate slogans. We just try to do the right thing — even when it’s the hard thing.”
At Finmec, we believe that showing up matters. Doing your best matters. And being decent and honest — still counts for something. This award belongs to every single person who shows up each day, supports one another, trains the next generation without being asked, and carries themselves with pride and humility.
Daniel also took a moment to say something that resonated with all of us:
“I get too much of the credit. If you really want to know why Finmec works, it’s because of Jess — my wife. Seventeen years of backing us in this. She’s not on the tools or in the yard, but she’s behind every big decision, every tough call, every late night. And trust me — she’s tougher than anyone in this room (especially when she’s telling me I’ve messed something up).”
That honesty, that warmth — that’s who we are. And that’s who this award is for.
People’s Choice Award

Winning the People’s Choice Award was deeply humbling. To know that people in the community took the time to vote for us — that means more than we can properly express.
“We don’t do this for branding. We do it because we live here. We raise our families here. We’ve built this business here. This is our home.”
We’re not a polished operation. We work with big machines in tough conditions. But we’re local, and we care about this town. We shop at the same places, our kids go to the same schools, and our team volunteers in the same community spaces. We don’t always get it right — but we try to show up, help when we can, and look after our people.
Earlier this year, we opened up the Finmec yard for a community day — expecting a small turnout. When over 400 people came through, it reminded us just how much connection matters in a town like Hedland. That sense of community is something we’ll never take for granted.
