Available Apprenticeships

Finmec currently offers two apprenticeship streams:

Typer from Finmec

1. Automotive Technician (Heavy Mobile Equipment)

This apprenticeship provides comprehensive training in servicing and repairing heavy vehicles and mobile equipment used across the mining and construction sectors.

What you’ll do:

  • Work on earthmoving machinery, mining equipment, and heavy trucks in our Port Hedland workshop.
  • Gain experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of mechanical systems.
  • Learn directly from qualified and experienced mechanics.
  • Develop skills in fault finding, preventative maintenance, and system overhauls.

Training Format:

  • 4-year apprenticeship
  • Practical on-the-job training at Finmec
  • Theoretical training and assessments completed through TAFE in Perth

2. Automotive Electrician

This apprenticeship focuses on the electrical systems used in heavy equipment, including diagnostics, installation, maintenance, and repairs.

What you’ll do:

  • Work on electrical systems in earthmoving machinery, mining vehicles, and trucks.
  • Learn how to install, maintain, and repair electrical components and systems.
  • Gain knowledge in diagnostics and fault finding using modern tools and equipment.
  • Work alongside qualified automotive electricians and learn from the best in the field.

Training Format:

  • 4-year apprenticeship
  • Practical hands-on experience in the Finmec workshop
  • Theoretical training delivered through TAFE in Perth
